AI and Organizational Needs

This guide will explore how today’s nonprofits can use AI tools to improve cost and operational efficiency for a smooth-running organization that is able to support its mission (and beneficiaries)

This project by the international fundraising think tank Rogare aims to identify key ethical considerations relating to artificial intelligence (AI) in fundraising. The project’s aim is not to try to solve dilemmas, but to shine a light on ethical dilemmas and issues that a narrow focus on the use and application of AI application may overlook.

Deployments of AI systems in the labour process are affecting an ever-expanding number of people, but most extant ethical frameworks are inadequate to address how we should work with and alongside AI systems. This report presents a set of ten Fair Work principles for AI that address this specific issue, developed through extensive tripartite consultation.

This framework is an initial version based on input from nearly 300 practitioners, leaders, and partners in the social sector. It draws on the lived expertise of the community to ensure that grantmakers of all sizes establish safe and equitable AI policies and practices.

This guideline provides methods to follow to protect personal and organizational data when using unregulated GenAI tools.

The following template provides complete documentation for each approved tool for organizational use. It is recommended that all approved tools have complete documentation compiled and saved together for ease of staff reference.

Developing a document retention policy may seem overwhelming at first, but think of it as simply a record of what types of documents the nonprofit must retain and for how long. The policy should specify that the nonprofit will also adhere to a regular business practice of document destruction according to the schedule referred to in the policy.

AI and Data Policy

This module allows for understanding the relationship between high quality data and high quality AI tools, knowing specific methods to implement data governance in your data and tools, and identifying best practices for creating a strong data culture in an organization.

This module allows for establishing a framework to help a nonprofit decide on AI, discover examples of how nonprofits use AI today, and learn about key tools that can be used for use cases at nonprofits.

This module allows an org to understand why having stated values can help organizations responsibly adopt AI, define less sensitive and more sensitive data sources, including personally identifiable data, and know questions to answer that will provide staff with broad guidelines for when to use AI, even as products evolve

AI Readiness and Implementation

Social sector organizations are uniquely defined and driven by their mission and commitment to their stakeholders. GenAI has the potential to enhance operational efficiency and amplify impact, but it also poses risks that must be carefully managed.

The AI Readiness Matrix gives organizations a grounded, intuitive way to understand where they are today, and a clear, strategic path for where to go next.

AI is poised to change the world in significant ways. AI isn’t new, but in a clear parallel to a time of explosive growth of the Internet twelve years ago, AI has recently become inexpensive, commercially accessible and easier to use for lay people. AI is about to reshape activism and philanthropy.

This guide shows how this innovative technology can transform the way orgs connect with donors, manage communications, and streamline operations. It covesr the basics of natural language processing, how LLMs works, and explore practical applications that can enhance organization outreach and efficiency.

This guide, similar to the one above, provides Nonprofit staff tools and tips to make effective prompts in GenAI models that can provide valuable insights and help with actionable items.

The Playbook includes a “Snapshot” that outlines top-line information on bias in AI, strategic plays to address bias, and steps to put them into action. It also includes a “Deeper Dive” that delves deeper into bias in AI, impacts for businesses and society from biased AI, and challenges for businesses to address it.

Propel Resources

This framework guide provides valuable insights on how to do prompts that generate valuable information and that can be leveraged in various organizational scenario plannings.

This guide provides a way for organizations to have a "North Star" when implementing AI and how they will use it in their work in a way that is meaningful, effective, and equitable.
